Double respect is due to John Galliano for making fabulous designs and setting a romantic mood for Christian Dior this season. Show was inspired by a ‘film noir’ backdrop of a derelict warehouse, suffused with shadowy light and dry ice.In keeping with Bacall-Bogart theme, the trench-coat was a key piece, worn with jeweled-lace petticoats or satin French knickers.

The 1940s mode was embraced by vintage-look short dresses, in floral chiffon with ruffled skirts, or in metallic Lurex, pointelle knits, hemmed to enhance bust and featuring built-in wears and knickers.Necklines were tied with bows, puffed sleeves and high, platform wedge-shoes that echoed retro vibe. The exposure factor was particularly compelling when black lace came over jewel-bright purple or fuchsia satin. Continue

Gareth Pugh, young British designer famous for his extreme, cyber-gothic, all-black, collections, made it a grey day at Paris Fashion Week. He created a melancholic vision in every shade of grey from smoke to pewter. Pugh mixed menswear and womens-wear in his show. His men’s clothes were significantly more restrictive than women’s. Models were dressed in such a way that it was almost difficult to identify them.

His first outfit, a trench belted, over a floating chiffon dress, in tone-on-tone shades of gray, set the mood for show. Models were done with a shaded face makeup as though they’d walked through an ash cloud, with grey head wraps. They marched to mournful sound of strings and drumbeats, a Matthew Stone soundtrack that featured a stentorian interpretation of the theme from Requiem for a Dream. Continue>>

Giorgio Armani looked in future and explored the world of ‘plastic fantastic’ in his younger, Emporio Armani collection at Milan Fashion Week. Armani exploded colors like fireworks on graphic PVC catwalk, sending a clear signal that he is back once again, working at full creative power after battling with hepatitis over summer.

It was designer’s second show in Milan, but this collection delivered an equally vibrant Giorgio Armani main line for spring/summer 2010. Bikinis and swimsuits were bedecked with Plexiglas brooches and necklaces as bright as molten lava, while sandals featured crimson Perspex heels and ankle-straps. Short, party dresses in Vesuvian shades of fuchsia and bright orange, were cinched with shiny, shocking-pink, and patent-leather belts. Continue>>
